Language Skills in Cantonese-speaking Adolescents: A Comparison between Grades, Genres and Modalities

WHAT is the purpose of the study?

Measuring the language skills in Cantonese-speaking adolescents across different grades, discourse genres (conversational and narrative), and modalities (oral and written).

WHO are eligible to participate?

Cantonese-speaking adolescents of grade 7, 9, 11 in Hong Kong local secondary schools.

​

WHAT will your child be asked to do?

Telling and writing stories based on pictures, answering questions, and undergoing a language history questionnaire.

​

WHEN and WHERE will the study take place?

The study will be conducted online (mainly by zoom), and we will schedule sessions at the participants’ convenience. 

​

We will be able to provide information about the participants’ general language ability and 150 HK dollars to the participants.
